Born in 1984, Miguel Gomes began to play violin at the age of 7 in the Conservatório de Música José Azeredo Perdigão, Viseu (Portugal). He studied with Susana Liedgran, Ana Serrano and Francisco Pereira de Sousa. Mr. Gomes was accepted at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra, in Lisbon, studying with Prof. Aníbal Lima. He attended several Master Classes with Gerardo Ribeiro, Aníbal Lima, Igor Oistrakh, Daniel Rowland, Blagoya Dimcevisky, Mikhail Bezverkhny, Vladimir Berlinsky, Roberto Valdés, Rodion Zamuruiev, among others. In the past 15 years, Miguel Gomes has held several teching positions and leading positions in music schools in Portugal. He also teaches at Orquestra Geração – Sistema Portugal, a music project with the assistance of musicians from Venezuela’s El Sistema. Apart from his violin teaching position at Orquestra Geração, Mr. Gomes is also responsible for three school orchestras, holding the position of Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Orquestra Intermunicipal Geração do Atlântico. On a regular basis, Mr. Gomes has been directing violin and orchestra masterclasses in Portugal and England, at the Junior Guildhall School of Music in London. From 2014 to 2016 he held a leading position as director of the strings section of the “Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa – JOP”, integrated in the European Federation of Youth Orchestras (EFNYO), playing in Bucharest, Kassel and Berlin (Euro Young Classic Festival). As a soloist, Mr. Gomes has played with several Portuguese orchestras. From 2007 to 2017 he was a member of the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra (OCP), serving both as head of second violins and Concertmaster. Within the orchestra, he was part of the artistic team of the project “Notas de Contacto - OCPsolidária na CERCIOEIRAS”, a music development project for people with mental disabilities. Since September 2015 he has been attending the Doctoral Program in Music Performance – Violin, at the University of Aveiro, under the artistic supervision of Professor Roberto Valdés.
