Biography

Alexander Gebhard is a British-German tenor from Luxembourg. He started his musical education at the Conservatory of Luxembourg singing with the 'Pueri Cantores' Boys' Choir under Pierre Nimax jr. and studying voice with Marie-Reine Nimax-Weirig. In 2012, Alexander received his 1ier Prix certificate with distinction in vocal studies. Recent operatic roles have included Oronte/Alcina (RAM Opera Scenes), Alfredo/La Traviata (Schneider/OAO) for the People's Opera, Cecco/Il mondo della luna (Devine/Band of Instruments) for New Chamber Opera, and Brother in Maxwell-Davies' 'The Hogboon' (Canellakis/OPL) for the Luxembourg Philharmonie. In August 2016, he made his debut at the London Grimeborn Opera Festival as Paulsen in the world premiere of Coenen-Rowe's 'Collision'. Recent concert and recital engagements have included J.S. Bach's Weihnachtsoratorium (Hamilton/The Kilgour Consort), Haydn's Paukenmesse (Welter/OCL), Bach Cantatas 80 and 235 (Bernhardt/Il Delirio fantastico), Schubert's Winterreise (St Anne's College, Oxford), Schumann's Dichterliebe (St Edmund Hall, Oxford), Franck's Les Sept Paroles du Christ sur la Croix (Nimax/CCCL), Mozart's Requiem (Tiede/Exeter College Choir, Oxford), and the world premiere of Barnaby Martin's 'The Temptations of Christ' (Cole/Illuminare). Since September 2018, Alexander has been studying at the Royal Academy of Music under the guidance of Raymond Connell, Jonathan Papp, and Iain Ledingham. His studies are supported by scholarships from the Royal Academy, the Rotary International Foundation, the Luxembourg National Cultural Fund, and the Mrs S S Payne Award. He was recently selected as one of the Royal Academy's inaugural Bach Scholars for the new concert series Bach the European. He holds an MPhil from Oxford and a BA from Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was a Choral Scholar under Stephen Layton. He has also worked at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and with the Choir of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican City.
